Cracking Down

Meth has been a hot topic in the news lately. Law enforcement officials have seen meth’s effects; they know its dangers and they’re determined to put an end to it.

Judicial districts and counties across the state have assembled task forces to deal specifically with the meth problem. These groups recommend new laws, stricter punishments and more effective rehab programs to lawmakers and other state officials.

One of the most visible steps lawmakers have taken is to restrict the availability of over-the-counter products used to make meth. Some retail stores have started placing common cold medicines behind the pharmacy counter. This makes it difficult for meth cookers to get their hands on medicines used for meth production. s

Along with these restrictions, the government is creating new laws at a rapid pace – a trend that will certainly continue.

What should you do if you come in contact with a meth user or notice a potential meth lab near your neighborhood?

  • Stay far away. Whatever you do, DO NOT enter the location of a potential meth lab. Meth labs are very dangerous, and handling chemicals or equipment can cause the chemicals used for the drug to combust.
  • Warn others of your suspicion. Inform friends and neighbors so they won’t get into a potentially dangerous situation.
  • Call your local police department. Many areas have established Meth Hotlines to handle situations such as this.
